智利葡萄栽培起始于1518年，当时的西班牙传教士在圣地亚哥周边种植葡萄，以提供教会做弥撒用葡萄酒。从那时候开始，智利就已经开始了葡萄酒种植，但是不成规模。直到19世纪中叶，智利摆脱西班牙殖民统治之后，许多智利人从法国引进先进的葡萄品种，葡萄园种植才真正兴起。

19世纪70年代，在智利的中心地带RAPEL（拉铺儿）地区的空加瓜谷，已经有当地的居民种植成片的葡萄园。那个年代，有一个广为流传的浪漫爱情故事，不仅与葡萄园有关，而且演绎了葡萄酒庄——艾维利亚的传奇。

1878年，一位西班牙巴斯克的小伙子伊瑞拉来到智利经商，偶然来到离圣地亚哥不远的空加瓜谷SANT CRUZ镇游玩。在这里，他遇到了葡萄园主艾尔尼斯（Yiernisi）的女儿米莎贝尔（Misabel），两个人相爱，并很快结婚。伊瑞拉深深地爱着米莎贝尔，于是决定在智利的空加瓜谷定居，并正式接管岳父的葡萄园。

伊瑞拉和米莎贝尔婚后十几年没有生儿育女，他们一直相亲相爱，守着葡萄园，并把葡萄园的规模不断扩大。直到伊瑞拉42岁的时候，米莎贝尔才生了一个女儿，他们视之为天使降临葡萄园，于是取名为艾维利亚，并把葡萄园命名为艾维利亚庄园。

也许是与生俱来的天赋，也许是从小受到父亲的熏陶，艾维利亚十七岁便和父亲一起管理葡萄园，并和法国酿酒师学习了很丰富的酿酒经验。这些都使艾维利亚酒庄的名气逐渐在智利扩散开来。

艾维利亚正式从父亲手中接管葡萄园之后的几十年的酿酒历程，充分发挥她的酿酒天赋，把艾维利亚酒庄推向一个又一个发展高峰。艾维利亚不仅仅深谙酿酒技术，更具有开拓精神，不断引进法国最优良的葡萄树种，补充本地葡萄种类的不足，使酒庄的酒质和口感更加醇厚，更加独特。

现在，艾维利亚父母的爱情故事在智利空加瓜谷传为佳话，而超过百年酿造历史的艾维利亚酒庄已经成为深受智利国人欢迎的传统品牌之一。如今的园主，一直遵循传统的酿造技术，生产各种佳酿。
